Reflections of Time: The Seaside Mirage

$54,200.00   $54,200.00

This surreal transformation of  Trees by the Seashore at Antibes merges Monet’s serene landscape with layered symbolism. A fragmented mask, resting upon aged parchment, symbolizes identity, hidden truths, and the passage of time. Below, the calm still life of a candle-lit table contrasts with the vast movement of the ocean. At its center, an orca rises from the sea, glowing with divine energy, representing inner wisdom and subconscious revelation. The artwork plays with light and color, blending warm golden tones of nostalgia with the deep blues of the unknown. Through this piece, I explore the balance between stillness and movement, reality and illusion, inviting viewers to reflect on the moments where truth surfaces, much like the orca breaking through the water’s edge.

This surreal reimagining of  Trees by the Seashore at Antibes transcends Monet’s traditional Impressionist landscape, infusing it with layered symbolism, mystery, and a dreamlike narrative. The scene unfolds in multiple dimensions, blending the natural beauty of Antibes with elements of identity, the passage of time, and the eternal motion of the sea.

In the upper portion of the composition, Monet’s serene trees stand against a soft, hazy backdrop, their branches reaching skyward like echoes of time itself. These trees, once a simple depiction of light and nature, now frame a fragmented reality—pieces of a painted mask layered over a parchment-like canvas. This mask, cracked and incomplete, represents identity, secrecy, and the way human perception is often filtered through personal experiences. A delicate hand, emerging from the torn paper, suggests the act of creation or revelation, as if reaching for something lost or hidden.

Below, the transition from land to sea is seamless yet surreal. The stillness of the table—set with a candle, a half-filled glass of wine, and scattered objects—contrasts with the immense movement of the ocean beneath it. The orca, emerging from the water in an almost divine fashion, is the focal point of this new artistic interpretation. Surrounded by a golden aura, the whale becomes a symbol of strength, wisdom, and the subconscious, breaking through the surface to reveal something profound. The interplay between the serene tabletop and the powerful energy of the sea suggests an intimate dialogue between stillness and motion, reality and dreams.

The color palette reflects the duality of this composition. Warm, golden hues of candlelight and sunset blend harmoniously with deep blues and blacks of the vast ocean. The warm tones evoke a sense of nostalgia and contemplation, whereas the dark blues of the water symbolize the unknown, the subconscious, and the vastness of human emotion. The mask’s pale ivory and parchment tones give a feeling of aged wisdom, as if memories from the past are surfacing, while the brilliant white of the orca draws attention to a moment of revelation, an epiphany breaking through the depths of the mind.

As an artist, I wanted to explore the nature of perception, time, and hidden truths. Monet’s original work captured the fleeting light and atmosphere of Antibes, a moment of tranquil beauty. Here, I push that moment beyond its Impressionist roots, turning it into a layered exploration of reality and illusion. The mask signifies the personas we wear, the layers of ourselves that remain unseen, waiting to be uncovered. The ocean—an eternal force of movement—reminds us that time never stands still, that even in moments of stillness, change is inevitable.

The presence of the orca is no coincidence. It represents the emergence of deeper knowledge, the rising of something powerful from beneath the surface. It is a metaphor for inner discovery, the subconscious making itself known. This work invites the viewer to reflect on their own layers of identity, on the moments in life where clarity breaks through the noise, much like the orca rising from the sea.

Ultimately,  Reflections of Time: The Seaside Mirage is an invitation to pause and look deeper. It challenges us to consider the masks we wear, the hidden forces that shape us, and the eternal rhythm of nature that continues beyond our understanding.
